This Bangkok 4-Day Itinerary is built for families who want an efficient, low-stress route through the city’s four geographic pockets, including a dedicated Safari World day.
Bangkok’s biggest time-waster with kids in tow isn’t any single attraction β it’s the drive between them. This itinerary groups sights into four tight geographic pockets (the old royal riverside, the Siam/Pathumwan mall belt, the Chatuchak market district, and one dedicated outer-Bangkok day for Safari World) so you’re never dragging tired legs across town for a single stop. Days are paced short and shaded, with a midday indoor break built into each one to dodge the worst of the heat.

Day 1: Rattanakosin (Old City) & Riverside

Bangkok’s three big-hitter temples sit within a 10-minute walk of each other on the river’s east bank, with Wat Arun a five-minute ferry ride across. Start early β this cluster gets hot and crowded by late morning, and the Grand Palace ticket booth closes mid-afternoon.
- 8:30 AM β Grand Palace & Wat Phra Kaew. Adults 500 THB, children under 120 cm free. Open daily 8:30 AMβ3:30 PM (ticket office closes 3:30 PM sharp). Strict dress code applies to kids too β shoulders and knees covered; sarongs can be borrowed at the entrance with a refundable deposit if anyone’s in shorts.
- 10:30 AM β Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha). A 5-minute walk south of the Palace. 300 THB adults, free under 120 cm, open 8:00 AMβ6:30 PM. The 46-meter gold Buddha is an easy hit with kids, and the 108-coin donation jars (20 THB for a bowl of coins) give them something to do.
- 12:00 PM β Riverside lunch near Tha Tien Pier. Small noodle and pad-thai stalls right by the pier β quick, cheap, and air you can breathe before the next stop.
- 1:00 PM β Cross to Wat Arun. Take the cross-river ferry from Tha Tien Pier (5 THB, ~3 minutes). Entry 200 THB for foreign adults. The central prang’s steep steps are optional β younger kids can admire it from ground level, which is still the best photo angle.
- 3:00 PM β Chao Phraya Tourist Boat (blue flag). Hop the tourist boat (60 THB one-way, or 200 THB for an unlimited day pass) back toward Sathorn/Saphan Taksin for an easy, breeze-cooled ride that doubles as sightseeing β kids tend to enjoy the boat itself as much as the temples.
Day 2: Siam / Pathumwan

Siam Station is Bangkok’s BTS interchange, and everything below sits within Siam Paragon or a couple of stops away β no long transfers, so you can build in a real midday break.
- 10:00 AM β Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World. Basement of Siam Paragon (BTS Siam, connected directly to the mall). Open 10:00 AMβ8:00 PM, last entry 7:00 PM. Around 1,090 THB per adult/child ticket at the counter β booking online in advance usually shaves off a decent chunk. Arrive at opening to beat tour groups.
- 11:45 AM β Lunch at Siam Paragon’s food hall. The Gourmet Market/food court level has enough variety that even picky eaters find something.
- 1:00 PM β KidZania Bangkok. 5th floor of Siam Paragon. Weekdays 10:00 AMβ5:00 PM, weekends/holidays 10:30 AMβ8:30 PM. Roughly 1,100 THB (weekday) / 1,350 THB (weekend) per child aged 4β14, adults 640/800 THB, toddlers 2β3 around 700/875 THB, under 2 free. Budget a full 2.5β3 hours β kids queue for activities inside.
- 4:00 PM β Lumpini Park. BTS Siam to Sala Daeng is one line, about 10 minutes. Free entry, open 4:30 AMβ9:00 PM. Free paddle boats run 9:00 AMβ4:00 PM only, so aim to arrive by 3:30 PM if the boats are the point β otherwise the shaded lakeside paths and resident monitor lizards are worth a stroll any time before closing.
Day 3: Chatuchak

This cluster is anchored around one MRT stop and only really comes alive on weekends β if your four days don’t include a Saturday or Sunday, swap this day’s order with Day 2 or 4 so it lands on the right date.
- 9:00 AM β Chatuchak Weekend Market. MRT Kamphaeng Phet has an exit that leads straight into the market (BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park are both a short walk away too). Open SaturdayβSunday 9:00 AMβ6:00 PM (a smaller plants-only section runs Wed/Thu 7:00 AMβ6:00 PM). Go early β by midday the covered lanes get hot, crowded, and stroller-unfriendly.
- 12:00 PM β Lunch at Or Tor Kor Market. Just across the road from the Kamphaeng Phet MRT exit. Cleaner, calmer, and better food than the market stalls β good mango sticky rice and a proper food court if the kids need a sit-down break.
- 1:30 PM β Rot Fai Park (Wachirabenchathat Park). A short walk or 5-minute taxi from Chatuchak. Free entry; bicycle rental runs roughly 60β100 THB/hour including kids’ bikes and tandem options. A flat, shaded loop road around the lake makes this one of the easiest “let them run/ride it out” stops in the city.
- 4:00 PM β Head back to rest. This is a good day to end early β by mid-afternoon everyone’s had sun, walking, and stimulation enough; save energy for Day 4’s full outing.
Day 4: Safari World & Marine Park

Safari World sits about 45β60 minutes northeast of central Bangkok with no convenient rail link, so this day is built as a single self-contained outing rather than a multi-stop cluster β book a car both ways and don’t plan anything else around it. Closed Mondays.
- 8:15 AM β Depart by Grab/taxi. Roughly 45β60 minutes from central Bangkok depending on traffic; leave early to catch the morning shows.
- 9:00 AM β Safari Park (drive-through section). Opens 9:00 AM. Tiger feeding at 10:00 AM, orangutan show at 10:20 AM. Ride the park’s own safari coach through this section (around 45 THB/person) rather than trying to walk it.
- 11:00 AM β Marine Park. Sea lion show 11:00 AM, elephant show 11:40 AM. Combined Safari + Marine Park ticket runs about 1,500 THB adult / 1,400 THB child; add roughly 300 THB per person for the buffet-lunch option, which is convenient given how spread out the site is.
- 1:30 PM β Afternoon shows. Cowboy stunt show at 1:30 PM, Spy War show at 2:45 PM β both in the Marine Park section, no re-entry hassle.
- 3:30 PM β Head back to the hotel. Budget another 45β60 minutes for the return drive; this is the one day where you should plan nothing after β kids (and parents) will be done.
Transfer Times Between Clusters
Because each day stays inside one pocket of the city, the only real transfers are the handoffs between days β plan these as your one “travel morning” rather than squeezing them between activities.
| From β To | Best option | Approx. time |
|---|---|---|
| Old City (Rattanakosin) β Siam/Pathumwan | Chao Phraya boat to Saphan Taksin, then BTS to Siam | 40β50 min total |
| Old City (Rattanakosin) β Siam/Pathumwan | Taxi/Grab (traffic-dependent) | 25β40 min |
| Siam/Pathumwan β Chatuchak | BTS Sukhumvit line, Siam to Mo Chit | ~25 min |
| Chatuchak β Safari World | Taxi/Grab | 45β60 min |
| Old City (Rattanakosin) β Chatuchak | Taxi/Grab (no direct MRT/BTS link) | 35β45 min |
Practical Notes
- Rabbit Card: Buy one at any BTS station (100 THB non-refundable card fee, plus top-up) so you’re not queuing for single tickets at every stop across Days 1β3. Note it’s BTS/BRT only β it doesn’t cover MRT or river boats, which you pay for separately.
- Height-based, not age-based, discounts: The Grand Palace, Wat Pho, and Wat Arun waive entry for children under 120 cm, but the BTS only gives free rides under 90 cm β everyone taller pays full adult fare. Know your kids’ actual heights before you budget the day.
- Heat and rest planning: 11 AMβ3 PM is the brutal stretch. Every day above is built so that window lands somewhere air-conditioned (Siam Paragon, Or Tor Kor’s covered market, Safari World’s Marine Park pavilions) β don’t rearrange the order without keeping that in mind.
- Grand Palace dress code applies to kids: Shoulders and knees covered for everyone, including children β pack a light long-sleeve layer or sarong rather than relying on the (slow-moving) loan counter at the gate.
- Tuk-tuks and taxis with kids: Tuk-tuks have no seatbelts or car seats and prices are negotiated up front (agree the fare before boarding, or skip them altogether) β for anything longer than a 10-minute hop, a metered taxi or Grab car is the safer, often cheaper, choice with young children.
